Apr 26, 6:30 - 9:30. Friday Night Blows

Queen City Glass Arts invites you, your family and friends to a special Friday Night Blows on Friday April 26th from 6:30 – 9:30 PM. This month we are excited to be working with Crayons to Computers where our team of talented artists will create sculptural pieces out of molten glass. C2C was founded on a simple idea: teachers need tools to teach, and students need supplies to learn. C2C has become a mainstay with local educators who rely on the free store for their everyday classroom needs. The event is free and open to the public; please feel free to bring school/art supplies to donate.

Each month we team up with a different local organization to collaborate on a theme that promotes the great work that group is doing in our community. Friday Night Blows are performance art events as our team of glass blowers work together to blow, form, and sculpt hot molten glass into sculptures that highlight the organization we are working with that month. The sculpture is then presented to the organization.

Queen City Glass Arts is a cultural and artistic center where the community can come to learn, play, and create with hot glass. Our mission is to educate and uplift the local community through the glass arts. The glass blowing studio is located in the Brazee Box at Brazee Street Studios. "The box" is at the end of Enyart Avenue off of Brazee St in Oakley. 3235 Enyart Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45209

Friday Night Blows is sponsored in part by a grant from ArtsWave.

This month we are excited to be working with Give Back Beyond, a program within Give Back Cincinnati. Give Back Beyond offers the unique opportunity for local YP’s to form a team, organize, and execute a trip to serve those in need beyond our city. The trips foster leadership, allow cincinnatians to explore new cultures and serve areas in need around the world. Over the past 8 years, GBBC has impacted lives in 6 different countries and energized thousands of Cincinnatians. Recent trips include Ghana, Gautamala, and New Orleans. Our team of glass blowers will create colorful New Orleans Row Houses out of molten glass to support Give Back Beyond's mission to help homeless families all over the world.

(Think of a fire truck for the Cincinnati Fire Department's new fire house, or a giant cornucopia for the Freestore Foodbank.) These public demonstrations are exciting events featuring a live D.J., blow by blow color commentary, and a highly skilled team of hot glass artists. These events are free and open to the public.

Student and community groups can tour our facility and enjoy a live glassblowing demo. Observers will be given an overview in the physics of working with molten glass, something we like to call "edutainment". Participants may also retrieve their piece to showcase in the classroom. Our faculty can also work with teachers to develop lesson plans prior to visiting.

Our faculty have collaborated in public demonstrations with renown artists including: Stephen Powell, Stephen Paul Day, Jonathan Miller, and Scott Darlington. Artist demonstrations and lectures are open to the public, featuring artists' signature styles and techniques.

Glass blowing is very much a team sport. We guarantee that you will never have more fun at a corporate event, after which you may keep and enjoy the trophy designed by your office.
